AI Transformative Workshop at Paolo Home, Kibera

(Paolo’s Home, is an initiative of Koinonia community which has continuously increasedits capability and capacity to rehabilitate children living with disabilities through offeringfree physiotherapy services).

From the 5th to the 7th of December 2023, a diverse group of 15 dedicated
professionals, including teachers, social workers, counselors, therapists, and professional caregivers, gathered to partake in an enlightening artificial intelligence (AI) and communication workshop.

Facilitated by the renowned LCMC Team, the workshop aimed to empower participants with AI tools and strategies to enhance their communication skills in their respective fields, so as to boost creativity, increase relevance, and enhance efficiency.
Towards the end of the first day of the training, participants quickly discovered the applicability of AI in their daily roles, which set the pace for the remaining days of the training. LCMC employed a hands-on approach, combining insightful presentations with interactive activities that allowed participants to directly apply AI concepts to their work.

Recognizing the unique challenges faced by teachers, social workers, counselors,
therapists and professional caregivers, the workshop provided customized strategies for each profession.

Teachers explored AI-powered educational tools, social workers learned about AI applications in community outreach, and counselors discovered
innovative ways to incorporate AI into therapy sessions. This tailored approach ensured that every participant left with practical and relevant skills.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the valuable insights gained. Many were amazed at the fact that a Catholic institution was holding the mantle of promoting the uptake of technology, more specifically, AI! As the workshop concluded, participants left with a newfound enthusiasm to integrate AI into their daily practices.
