LOYOLA CENTRE FOR MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS

CHILD IDENTITY FORMATION (CIF) PROJECT

At the Loyola Center for Media and Communications (LCMC) is a dynamic program designed to equip teachers, parents, pastoral agents, and anyone who directly interacts with children and young people, especially teenagers, with the knowledge and skills to understand and guide the Gen Z and Alpha generations. The program emphasizes the importance of comprehending the unique worldview of these generations to nurture their identity formation effectively in today’s complex world. CIF adopts a holistic approach that addresses internal and external influences shaping young people’s self-perception, values, and behaviour, creating safe spaces for resilience and positive development.

Focus Areas:

1. Spiritual Resilience

  • Develops frameworks for engaging children and young people in meaningful spiritual formation rooted in Gospel values.
  • Encourages parents, teachers, and religious leaders to provide faith-based guidance that helps young people navigate life’s challenges with a strong moral foundation.

2. Relational and Cultural Awareness

  • Examines the influence of family dynamics, cultural norms, and societal pressures on Child identity formation.
  • Strengthens the relationship between children, teachers, and parents to enhance the teaching and learning process while instilling appropriate values in young people.
  • Promotes understanding and communication strategies to bridge generational gaps and address challenges such as peer influence, technology, and media exposure.

CIF’s overarching objective is to help stakeholders understand the unique characteristics of Gen Z and Alphas, including their digital immersion, global perspectives, and rapidly evolving societal influences. By addressing communication hurdles, identity challenges, and the disconnect between generations, the program equips participants to effectively nurture young people’s intelligence, individuality, and potential. Through workshops, interactive sessions, and collaborative learning, participants gain tools and insights to engage with young people in a way that affirms their value and fosters their holistic development.

Ultimately, CIF aims to foster a community that collaborates to form children and young people in God’s image and plan. The program empowers parents, educators, and pastoral agents to create love, understanding, and guidance environments by focusing on spiritual resilience and relational and cultural awareness. CIF envisions shaping a generation of compassionate, confident, and faith-filled individuals who are prepared to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
