CHILDREN ENVIRONMENTAL RIGHTS

The Loyola Centre for Media and Communications (LCMC) is spearheading an innovative project aimed at educating children about their environmental rights and responsibilities. This initiative focuses on imparting knowledge about individual and collective responsibilities to the natural environment, ensuring that every child’s right to a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment is upheld. Through practical environmental conservation activities and climate adaptation strategies, the project aims to spur interest and cultivate positive behavioral shifts among students. These activities not only help reduce environmental risks but also inspire children to actively participate in conserving their environmental rights.

Furthermore, LCMC’s project advocates for children’s voices to be heard by local policymakers concerning their right to a healthy and sustainable environment, in alignment with the United Nations General Comment 26. By engaging students in media productions, the project aims to sensitize and educate their peers and the general public on the importance of environmental conservation. This component encourages students to create artistic expressions, participate in workshops and seminars, write to policymakers, and produce advocacy videos, thereby fostering a generation of environmentally conscious and proactive youth. The target group includes children aged 10 to 17, particularly those from urban informal settlements and marginalized rural areas, who will greatly benefit from this empowering and educational initiative.
