LCMC Backs Catholic Church’s Lenten Campaign, ‘The Kenya We Desire,’ in Anti- Corruption Efforts

Loyola Centre for Media and Communications (LCMC) engaged 36 members of the Catholic Justice and Peace Department (CJPD) from the Catholic Diocese of Mombasa in a workshop on grassroots anti- corruption initiatives. The training, held in Mombasa, took place ahead of the national launch of the 2025 Lenten campaign themed "The Kenya We Desire" on February 28.

During the session, Mr. Denson Machuki, LCMC’s Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, highlighted the various dimensions and manifestations of corruption in Kenya. Using data, figures, and infographics, he illustrated the staggering amounts lost to corruption and urged CJPD commissioners to hold leaders accountable for government projects within their regions.

Archbishop Martin Kivuva Musonde of Mombasa, who graced the occasion, commended LCMC’s efforts in promoting citizen participation and grassroots mobilization against corruption, calling it “a bold step in restoring hope to society.” He also urged Kenyans, particularly believers, to remain politically neutral and avoid being divided along ethnic lines.

“We are one Kenya governed by one Constitution. We should not follow politicians who keep reminding us of our ethnic differences for their selfish gain. Be like judges—listen first and weigh the facts before taking a stand,” said Archbishop Kivuva.

The collaboration between LCMC and the Catholic Justice and Peace Department (CJPD) aligns with LCMC’s mission to strengthen grassroots participation in the fight against corruption. To date, 66 CJPD commissioners across the country have joined the initiative, marking significant progress in the campaign.
