Children and Environmental Rights Project

The Loyola Centre for Media and Communications (LCMC) proudly works on a Children’s Environmental Rights Advocacy Program, aimed at empowering children aged 10–17 in Nairobi, Kenya, to become advocates for a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment. Through education, creative expression, and practical activities, the program equips young people with the skills and knowledge to understand their environmental rights and responsibilities. Inspired by the United Nations General Comment 26 on children’s rights to a healthy environment, participants engage in initiatives such as recycling, clean-up drives, tree planting, and creating water filtration systems.
The program also incorporates media projects, including advocacy videos, poetry, and drama, to raise awareness and inspire action among peers and communities. By establishing child-led environmental clubs and fostering leadership, it encourages children to take ownership of sustainability efforts while promoting collaboration and inclusivity.
This initiative aims to foster a generation of environmentally conscious leaders, ready to address challenges and advocate for positive change. By increasing awareness of environmental rights, building advocacy skills, and driving practical action, the program seeks to create lasting behavioral shifts in schools and communities. With partnerships across schools, local organizations, and policymakers, LCMC ensures a holistic approach to achieving sustainable development. Parents, educators, and environmental enthusiasts are invited to join this mission and support young leaders in creating a greener, more sustainable future for all.
