In a serene environment at the heart of Uganda’s capital Kampala, at St. Mbaaga Seminary, a transformative journey unfolded for a group of junior professed religious men and women from various congregations, both within and beyond Uganda’s borders. The one-month training, organized by the ARU Formation team, was designed to equip the participants with the necessary insights as they prepared for their final vows. The program offered a variety of topics ranging from canonical norms to self-awareness, addiction management, to understanding cultural differences, all in a bid to promote the spiritual and personal growth of the participants.
The curriculum was designed in such a way that it addressed different aspects of the participants’ vocations. For many, the exploration of canonical norms related to consecrated life was an eye opener. They discovered their rights as religious people as they learned about the procedures involved before dismissal from religious life.
Brother Richard Kagoda, one of the participants, elatedly shared his gratitude for the awareness. He expressed how the understanding of canonical norms not only affirmed his place within his congregation but also facilitated harmonious relationships, particularly with older members of the community. This testimony highlights the practical significance of the ARU formation program’s teachings in fostering unity and understanding among religious communities.
Similarly, Sister Assumpta Aleso, another participant in the one-month preparation for final vows found immense value in the program’s focus on addiction management. As someone engaged in ministry with children, she recognized the importance of being equipped with knowledge and skills to address such challenges effectively. The training provided her with insights into addiction and its management, enabling her to extend support and guidance to those under her care. Through her apostolate, she offers assistance to those grappling with addiction issues, hence, restoring their hope. Beyond the structured sessions, the program also allowed for moments of relaxation and entertainment – a vital component in nurturing holistic well-being. These pauses provided opportunities for participants to strengthen bonds, share experiences, and rejuvenate their spirits, thus enhancing the overall effectiveness of the training.
The impact of the ARU Formation Program extends beyond the confines of St. Mbaaga Seminary. As junior professed religious men and women return to their respective communities, they carry with them not only knowledge but also a renewed sense of purpose and empowerment. Equipped with insights on canonical norms, addiction management, and cultural awareness, they are better prepared to deal with the complexities of their vocations and inspire positive change within their congregations and society at large.
