LOYOLA CENTRE FOR MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS

LEAVE NO YOUTH BEHIND PROGRAM

The National Care Reform Strategy provides a definition for care leavers, identifying them as individuals aged 15 to 30 who are in the process of leaving or have already departed from a formal or informal  alternative care arrangement. These care arrangements may encompass foster care, institutional care, such as children’s homes, kinship care, and other forms of recognized alternative care in Kenya, as outlined in the National Alternative Family Care Guidelines of 2014.
In a collaborative effort between SOS, Loyola Centre for Media and Communications, and the Jesuit Hakimani Centre, the focus is on shedding light on the challenges faced by young care leavers in Eldoret and Mombasa. Through these joint efforts, young individuals receive training to become advocates for their rights. The ultimate goal of these sessions is to empower the young care leavers in the youth development policy of Mombasa by the end of 2025.
